Cat's eye
The Cat's Eye Nebula, estimated to be 1,000 years old, provides a visual "fossil record" of a dying star - or perhaps a double star system. Such planetary nebulae are created when a star depletes its nuclear fuel and begins puffing away layers of material. The result is often stunningly beautiful.
